Herrell Announces $2 Million Federal Loans for Socorro City Water Projects
WASHINGTON — Congresswoman Yvette Herrell (R-N.M.) today announced the City of Socorro was awarded two U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development loans totaling $2,014,000. The low-interest, 40-year loans will finance improvements to the city's sewer and wastewater facility.
"The projects made possible through this federal investment will help provide better health and sanitation conditions for over 9,000 residents of Socorro," said Herrell. "Small, rural communities could not afford to finance large capital projects without access to these types of low-interest loans."
One loan will finance the replacement of sewer lines and the other will help make upgrades to the wastewater facility. Due to their age, both the sewer lines and the facility are no longer structurally sound.
